When we had Bracken from East Midlands Dog Rescue, we were happy to follow Sandy’s guidance of using Feldon Vets (Hinckley). As it happened it was also pretty convenient for us.
Bracken was checked over, speyed, microchipped, inoculated, had a rabies injection and associated blood test all done at Feldon’s. From the very first visit, we felt that they provided an exceptional standard of care – treating their patients, not just as animals, but as a member of the family.
As anyone who saw Bracken in the Boiler room at EMDR (with her pup Brock), will have seen a very frightened, nervous little girl (not so much now, I might add!!). That was also recognised and taken into consideration by the staff at Feldon’s.
Being thoroughly impressed, we decided to register Tiddy, our 18 year old cat, with the practice. With an immediate need for flea and worm treatments, we asked the vet, John Harrison, what he would recommend, given that most previous flea treatments burnt and irritated the poor old lad’s skin. John asked to see the cat before prescribing anything, so an appointment was duly booked.
When John examined him, he immediately spotted a bit of a weight loss issue (which we thought was down to his age), and asked to do a blood test. This was to check for age related problems, particularly the thyroid.
Louise, clearly looking worried, went and sat in the waiting room, while the blood was taken. While that was going on, John came out himself to re-assure her that even if there were problems, they could be treated with medication. He also guaranteed that the flea treatment would not burn his skin.
Sure enough, the blood tests confirmed a thyroid problem. Tiddy is now taking a tablet a day, and has immediately started to reverse the weight loss.
… and the flea treatment didn’t burn his skin!
So, from our own experiences, we cannot speak highly enough of the quality and care provided by the team at Feldon’s – and it looks like Bracken has inadvertently saved the life of our cat!
